Ilmaqah

Ilmaqah
Semitic moon god, predecessor of Allah, in pre-Islamic pantheon. He had a privileged place in the astral trinity, Imaqah, Sams, and Atter, being a god common to Semitism. From him may have been derived certain obvious essentials of Babylonian religion, Mosaic monotheism, and even Islam. In this particular pantheon the moon was masculine and the sun feminine, giving an indication of its great age, although even at that it may well have been preceded by a trinity of mother goddesses. He may be equated to Il or Ilah.
